Columbia State Department of Music Presents: Fall Concert
First Presbyterian Church
Thu, Dec 05 1:00 pm
Columbia State Community College’s Department of Music will present its fall concert on Nov. 26 at 1 p.m. in the Ledbetter Auditorium, and on Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The Columbia State choir will perform a holiday concert featuring works by two famous choral composers, John Rutter and Dan Forrest, under the direction of Judith Morehouse, Columbia State associate professor of music. The program’s highlight is Dan Forrest’s “Gloria In Excelsis” from Forrest’s LUX, a major, modern classical work in the finest tradition. Several of Forrest’s other songs bring a great sense of calm and joy and feature local professional musicians. Columbia State’s Chamber Ensemble will close the concert with two of John Rutter’s most famous Christmas carols: “Candlelight Carol” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” “From Mozart’s aria “Bester Jüngling,” to Gilpin’s arrangement of “The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers,” to the Great American Songbook favorite “The Christmas Song,” this concert is sure to have something for everyone,” Morehouse said. Dr. Mark Lee, Columbia State professor of music, will lead the Performance Ensemble in classical music selections for guitar and wind instruments. The concerts are free and open to the public. The Ledbetter Auditorium is in the Frank G. Clement Building on the Columbia Campus, located at 1665 Hampshire Pike. First Presbyterian Church is located at 801 South High Street, Columbia.
