War of 1812 Military Encampment
The Hermitage Home of President Andrew Jackson
Sat, Mar 16 9:30 am

Guests will enjoy the rare opportunity to experience the sights, sounds, and smells of a 19th-century military encampment as General Jackson’s forces are encamped on the grounds of The Hermitage. Featuring 150 costumed interpreters under the direction of the United States 7th Infantry Living History Association, guests will have the chance to talk with Tennessee Militia recruits about their experiences, hear from Native American allies about their complex relationships with the United States and rival nations, listen to famous historical figures (including the General himself!) giving political speeches in the Tavern, watch tradesmen and women at work supplying the camp, speak with Tennessee women about their lives during the war, participate in drilling exercises and weapons demonstrations – and much more! A detailed camp program schedule will be posted soon. Sensory-Friendly Hours: A special sensory-friendly Encampment will be open from 7:30-9:30 am. Families with any sensory sensitivities or crowd concerns will have the opportunity to enjoy the film, exhibit spaces, mansion tour, and encampment activities with customized reduced noise and crowds. Free with general admission, which includes access for the entire day as well as early admission during this special experience.
